Saying Thanks/Karma Tipping
Hey gang. Something has been on our minds for a while, which is gratitude towards users. We’re not angling for thanks in any way (really, it’s not our style), but there are users who do spend tremendous amounts of time adding competitions, in particular finding rare or unusual ones, who in many ways are the lifeblood of the site. Because of the way the site works, there aren’t long comment threads usually, but there is the occasional “Thank you” from one user to another, and sincerely, that is more satisfying to see than anything else.
So, as we sometimes do, we want your opinion on whether we should encourage more users to thank each other. This could be done in a number of ways, such as simply encouraging you all to say “Thanks” more often (simple enough, though it’s rather patronising to do so), or to monetize that gratitude with Karma points. Tipping a user might mean they get a couple of extra points for a submission, or even a comment. The question is, would you tip them from your own Karma balance (suggesting you really are grateful), or tip them with new Karma points which don’t affect yours. We’d be really keen to hear your thoughts. Any comments, please fire away.

Hi, I joined your site around two weeks ago and since that time have voted on every competition I have entered and also submitted some of my own (when I have had the time). From a personal point of view I have been content with people voting on my submissions as I see it as a thanks anyway. On all competiton sites there will always be people who have more time to look for and submit competitions and indeed enjoy doing so and sharing with others, and I have to say the opportunity to earn Karma points for the sharing on this site was an added attraction and incentive for me. So, personally (and from a newbie point of view!) I am content with the votes.
I hope you get more replies, but if you don’t perhaps this might suggest it is something that is more on your minds than others?!
I hope this helps.
Anne
